The Bike Rack

A basic premise of entrepreneurism is to find a problem people want solved and find a solution they are willing to pay for. Our youth programs attracted a lot of kids on bikes. This led to a pile of bikes blocking something everything there were a lot of kids, which is basically all the time.

We gathered the kids and asked them how we could solve the problem and of course bike rack was the immediate response and clear winner. However, there is budget for this at the moment. So we turned to replimat (www.replimate.org). We built a quick example for them to study and then tear apart and make it their own.

Wooden Replimat Example

With the Replimat tool available to us (in wooden format to teach with), we let the kids loose. Jerry was immediately fired from the team and Davon took over the leadership and mentoring.

It took the kids about 4 iterations to get it the way they liked, they designed as they built, they learned and improved.
