The program this month will be a showing of a provocative and insightful documentary film, Where To Invade Next, directed by Michael Moore.  In this film, Moore humorously adopts the role of an “invader” traveling to various countries around the world to “steal” their best ideas and policies.  His goal is to unearth and bring back the most successful and progressive practices to benefit the United States.

Moore examines how Europeans view work, education, health care, sex, equality, and other issues.  He looks at the benefits of schooling in France, Finland, and Slovenia… and particularly the gourmet school lunches and ultra-liberal sex education in France.  In Italy, he marvels at how workers enjoy reasonable work hours and utmost-generous vacation time.  In Portugal, Moore notes the effects of the decriminalization of drugs.  In Norway, he is astonished by how prison inmates can get puppies and flowers and enjoy heated floors, bike rides, and five-star cooking classes.  (A “60 Minutes” program in 2016 talks about the German prison program where inmates do yoga and have keys to their cells.)

In the prelude to the main program will be time for announcements, introduction of new members, and an opportunity for attendees to share their thoughts on any subject – such as latest political news headlines, or recommendation on a book, a movie, a restaurant, etc.
